I would like to digress some to explore another aspect of the health benefits of art.
If you focus on the polarity of breathing we can explore some aspects of the in and out of other living processes. I have introduced the colors of yellow and blue and their tendencies of going out and going in as a polarity. They also can represent a kind of breathing. What would happen if you took a moment to slowly focus on a yellow circle and then a blue one alternately? Is it calming-similar to taking slow complete breaths? I'd be interested in your feedback if you try this. Another polarity is the phenomena of after images. Do our eyes breathe? Try this. Get two sheets of white paper. Color a bright yellow circle on one sheet about one or two inches in diameter. Stare at it with soft eyes for about thirty seconds and then look at the other plain white paper. Do you see a soft image of the opposite color? This is a great experience and can shift your attention to a sensory phenomena that is out of the ordinary. Again it reveals a polarity.

AuthorI have trained as an Art Educator and an Art Therapist. I especially like what Goethe has to say about colour! I hope I can in some way begin to observe nature as he did. Archives
